Use Case: Smart Cities

Aggregate Urban Sensor Data at City Scale

From traffic sensors to air quality monitors, ingest millions of IoT data points via MQTT and Prometheus. Query with SQL and visualize in Grafana or the admin dashboard.

Aggregate Urban Sensor Data at City Scale

Smart city infrastructure at scale

MQTT Ingestion

Native MQTT support with TTN LoRaWAN auto-parsing. Connect thousands of urban sensors without middleware.

Public Geo Data Built-in

DWD weather warnings, OpenAQ air quality, and Overture places, divisions, buildings and roads — already ingested, ready to join against your own sensors.

Multi-Tenant Isolation

Separate data by department, district, or agency with API key isolation and tenant-scoped queries.

Real-Time Dashboards

Grafana integration and built-in admin dashboards for real-time urban monitoring.

Showcase: City sensors × Overture × weather

Ask questions that span the whole city

Icelake's geo table ships pre-loaded with DWD severe-weather warnings, OpenAQ air-quality stations, and Overture Maps places, divisions, buildings and roads for the EU. Your city's LoRaWAN sensors live in the same lakehouse — so spatial joins are SQL, not a separate GIS stack.

"Schools in Sankt Jürgen"

MasterMind resolves the neighbourhood against Overture divisions and counts every Overture place tagged school inside the polygon — no manual boundary import.

"Air-quality sensors near a rain warning"

Join your PM2.5 LoRaWAN sensors against the active DWD warning polygons and watch readings rise as the front sweeps through.

"Transit stops within 500 m of incident"

Spatial buffers against Overture transit POIs let operations centres ask reach questions without a separate spatial DB.

"Top districts by error logs"

Logs carry lat/lon — joined to Overture admin polygons, MasterMind aggregates incidents per district in one round.

Showcase: The Things Network

From LoRaWAN sensor to chart in minutes

The Things Network (TTN) is the world's largest open LoRaWAN network, connecting millions of IoT devices in cities worldwide. Icelake integrates directly with TTN — no middleware, no custom code, no glue infrastructure.

How it works

  1. Register your devices on The Things Network console and note your Application ID
  2. Add a TTN MQTT source in the Icelake admin dashboard under Data In → MQTT Sources
  3. Enter your TTN credentials — broker: eu1.cloud.thethings.network, port: 8883
  4. Select "TTN LoRaWAN" parsing mode — Icelake auto-extracts device EUI, RSSI, SNR, and all decoded payload fields
  5. Ask AI MasterMind — "Show me temperature readings from all sensors in the last 24 hours"

Example: Urban air quality network

A city deploys 200 LoRaWAN air quality sensors across districts. Each sensor reports PM2.5, PM10, temperature, humidity, and NO2 every 15 minutes via The Things Network.
